RW Supply + Design’s mission is that we exist UNTIL EVERY CHILD IS HOME.
Catholic Priest Richard Rohr famously said that “pain that is not transformed, gets transmitted.” By age 17, over 50% of foster children will have an encounter with the juvenile legal system through arrest, conviction or detention. If a child has moved to five or more placements, they are at a 90% risk of being involved with the criminal legal system (American University Washington College of Law). Worldwide, statistics are not as easy to determine. Yet, some organizations report that 75-90% of children ‘aging out’ of institutional life are involved in crime, prostitution or dead within 5 years of leaving the orphanage.
Love and care does not erase the pain of abandonment or trafficking. However, pain can be transformed. As a result of attachment, we see so many Asia’s Hope children defying the odds and thriving.
Chhem (pronounced Chime), is a wonderful example of what happens when pain is transformed. She is the house mother of the family style home that RW sponsors in Cambodia. Unable to live with her biological family, she grew up at Asia’s Hope. As an adult, she has returned to be a mother to over 20 children. Pain transformed….not transmitted for sure!
The ability to work until every child is home, transforming lives, is solely because of the work that you do each day!
