This young man has been part of the teaching staff at the Love Without Boundaries Sokhem School for a few years. For the past two years he has been teaching the 6th grade students. Here are some of his own words describing his commitment to and enjoyment of his job.
“All I want is for them to get more knowledge both in society life and school. I make daily lesson plans to teach them. I give them homework or exercises that they can do when they are free. Regarding our commitment and daily habits, the students and I have gotten better at learning and teaching. We can share and get good experiences together day by day. We have a good time that we cannot forget. We are not teacher and students, but we are brothers and sisters.”
Sokhem School (where this young man teaches) is located in rural Cambodia near the border of Thailand and Cambodia. While all of Cambodia’s provinces can be a source for child abandonment, trafficking, and child abuse, the border area is a hub for unsafe, irregular and informal migration, meaning individuals and sometimes even entire families seeking opportunities are at risk of exploitation and abuse, including forced labor and sexual trafficking. The Catch Up Class, which we sponsored in 2022, allows children (often those living in the dump) to receive an education. Education, is one of the best ways to keep a child safe. Keeping kids safe in their biological families and offering them an education are two of the best tools to making sure that every child is home. The ability to work until the day that every child is home is solely because of the work that you do each day.
We are working for the day every child has a home.
4 Areas of Focus
- Family preservation / orphan prevention.
- Facilities that support abandoned children.
- Educational programs for orphaned children.
- Adoption grants.
Work Connection
RW Supply + Design is working towards the day that every child is home. Our current goal is to be involved in the lives of 100,000 individuals. Supporting the Catch Up Class is one way that we work to make sure that children are able to stay with their biological families while receiving additional support – food, other safe adults, and an education. The children in this program would not be able to rejoin school without this program and we know that education is one of the best ways to break the cycle of generational poverty that leads to child abandonment.
