RW Supply + Design’s mission is that we exist UNTIL EVERY CHILD IS HOME . Whenever children lose their biological parent(s), they immediately lose two things foundational for a stable childhood: SAFETY and CONNECTION. Many solutions…aimed at helping at-risk kids attempt to preserve a child’s safety. Safety is essential. However, without also building stable, long-term connections, a child remains vulnerable. For instance, an orphanage (in theory) is much safer than living on the streets. Yet, children in orphanages remain at high risk of abuse and exploitation. In some places, children in orphanages may live in relative safety until they reach the teen years and, suddenly, they are forced to leave. They enter a dangerous world with no connections.

Sadly, there is no universally perfect strategy for helping at-risk children. Different children have different needs, and every situation is different. Culture, tradition, government, etc., all play a part in long-term solutions.

Yet, we have seen that ‘family style’ foster care homes, permanent homes with permanent caretakers, have the highest success rates. These homes mimic a family with parents (or parental figures) . A ‘family’ provides children with structure that rebuilds lost connection. More than one caregiver also allows safety and accountability. While early on, we partnered many types of foster care organizations, we now look to ‘family style’ homes as the best secondary placements for children who need a HOME. It has been amazing for us to see the benefit of family. With so much adversity, these kids are thriving…proving the power of connection.The ability to work until every child is home, through sponsoring homes and facilities for at-risk children, is solely because of the work that you do each day!
