RW Supply + Design’s mission is that we exist UNTIL EVERY CHILD IS HOME. Children often go to orphanages in desperate family situations – poverty, broken families, war, political unrest, etc. However, Reuters estimates that 80% of all children in orphanages have living family members. Sadly, once a child is left in an orphanage, there is minimal chance that they will return to life with their family. Large orphanages and institutions are often understaffed with multiple children and a changing cycle of caretakers. Without at least one primary and consistent attachment, institutions can be extremely detrimental…for instance, young adults raised in orphanages are 10 times as likely to fall into sex work or be sexually exploited and 500 times as likely to take their own life. Our belief is that, whenever possible, children should grow up with their biological families…this is why family preservation is important to us. If that is not an option, children should have the opportunity to attach to at least one safe adult…through a foster family, adoptive family, or teacher. We define HOME as an attachment to at least one safe adult and we financially partner with organizations that seek to meet children’s needs in these areas. Our ability to work until the day that every child is home is solely because of the work that you do each day.
