RW Supply + Design’s mission is that we exist UNTIL EVERY CHILD IS HOME. Sam and I (Rachel – his spouse) are crazy about our daughter Blythe. She is organized and responsible and she is the best person to go to dinner with…a total foodie. Blythe joined our family through adoption when she was 18 months old. We decided early on that we would try to locate all of our three daughters’ birth families. It is very difficult to locate birth families in China. As we expected, there was minimal success…until we found one clue.

That one clue led us to other open doors and we eventually traveled to China to meet Blythe’s parents and extended family. It was an emotional trip for everyone involved and we learned a lot. It is so easy for us to make assumptions about birth families. However, we saw firsthand what we vaguely knew. Many many many birth parents WANT to raise their children. Blythe’s parents were no exception. They absolutely wanted her. Sadly, because their lack of access to medical care, to treat Blythe’s heart condition, Blythe became our daughter. We are so thankful that we get the chance to raise her, but we also grieve the fact that Blythe and her parents are facing what many families around the world experience – separation due to a lack of resources.

According to the organization 1MillionHome, which works to help children find permanent homes, 80% of children living in orphanages (like Blythe was) have a relative or a family member who could (and would) care for them. These family members just lack resources. We believe that no child should face the trauma of losing family or live in an understaffed orphanage. This is why we support organizations that preserve families. The ability to work until the day that every child is home, is solely because of the work that you do each day!
